National research shows that July had the most motorcycle accidents of any month last year.
This shouldn’t come as a surprise as the 4th of July holiday provides many bikers with an extended weekend and sunny weather – ideal conditions for hitting the open road. The same data, compiled by Progressive, confirms this.
July 5 through 7 garnered the highest number of motorcycle insurance claims and crashes, making it, albeit a convenient weekend, the most dangerous three-day period for bike owners.
In many cases, motorcycle crashes involve excessive speed and either occur at intersections with other vehicles or take place during turns or at corners –high-risk, yet avoidable scenarios.
According to Statista, North Carolina had 223,000 registered private and commercial motorcycles as of 2011. With moderate weather and a landscape that offers a mountains-to-coast ride of only 5 hours, it’s no wonder motorcycles are prevalent across the state.
What is a wonder to many bike owners are the coverage specifics of motorcycle insurance. We encourage all owners to become well-versed in the insurance matters that impact you before riding off into the sunset.
